Resumo

The concern regarding the intensity of fires and especially the vulnerability of human settlements close to forest areas has increased as a result of the change in the structure of the Mediterranean forest, which has become much denser after the abandonment of forest management. This study aims, to identify potentially vulnerable sites in wildland urban interface (WUI) of the metropolitan area of Barcelona (RMB) by applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to analyze the existing legislation on prevention measures that affect these areas, and we point out the need to incorporate into the prevention plans, the risk perception of people who have located within the forest. The integration of these elements in the policies of planning prevention should contribute to make the fight against forest fires more effective.
