Third-person effect, Internet and the erotic content: an analysis through the eyes of young brazilian and portuguese people

The circulation of images, texts and videos with erotic and pornographic contents on Internet reflects the dynamic and fast format supported by this online environment. It is estimated that currently almost all the Internet users already have had access to such materials, whether by means of direct access to the sites and like, by means of spam and even from mailing lists of friends and acquaintances. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the perception of negative effects of receiving such content under the eye of the receiver in relation to 'himself' and 'others', based on the 'Third-Person Effect Hypothesis'. For this purpose, it was conducted a quantitative exploratory investigation, with young Brazilians and Portuguese, whose data were collected by means of structured questionnaire and analyzed using statistical analysis. As a result, we point to confirm the ‘third-person effect’ in the studied environment, without disregarding some peculiarities addressed in the article.
