Implications of duration in prosody: asturian and spanish of the center of asturias

With the data obtained from the analysis of vowel duration in utterances performed by men and women, in controlled contexts, in the framework of the Prosodic Multimedia Atlas of Romanesque Space in Asturias (AMPER-Astur), this article examines the behavior of vowel duration in relationship with the accent, the prosodic boundaries and the intonation. This analysis, performed with the data obtained for Asturian and Spanish spoken in Mieres (Asturias), confirms the importance of duration in the discrimination of intonation sentences.
