Abstract

In this paper I study two French films from the second half of the Sixties that focus on different figures of the Spanish republican exile: first, in Alain Resnais’ La Guerre est finie (The War is Over, 1966), based on Jorge Semprún’s life, the militant that becomes one of the clandestine Spanish communist party leaders, and secondly, in Jean Prat’s El español (The Spaniard, 1967), both the republican soldier that joins the French Resistance and the one that eventually finds in the Jura vineyards a life filled with love for nature and for the work in the land.
