The solidarity campaigns promoted by the Francoist regime in the past century were widely known. Christmas, in particular, was a key date. In this article, we will contrast the NO-DO news and documentary broadcasts collected for this study with their portrayal in one of the films that most severely denounced the hypocrisy of those events: Plácido (1961), by Luis García Berlanga. We will meticulously search through the rich collection of the Filmoteca Española [Spanish film archive institute], in addition to other sources that have addressed this historical period. We sincerely believe that the following text will highlight the wide range of content available both in film archives and the cinema itself, which will allow us to reconstruct the society of the past.
