Luis G. Berlanga (1921-2010) is renowned as the most significant Spanish filmmaker of the Franco’s dictatorship. However, his work had limited exposure in the NO-DO. For four decades, the Spanish newsreel wielded a substantial influence on Spain's cultural history, projecting information through the lens of censorship. This influence significantly affected the realm of cinema, affecting iconic directors like Berlanga, Bardem or Saura. This article delves into Berlanga's cinematic contributions within the constrained framework of the NO-DO, comparing them with content offered by specialized journals (Primer plano, Otro cine, Film ideal, Dirigido por…, etc.), that covered the period between 1950 and 1980, an era marked by the pervasive influence of Francoist institutions.
