NO-DO GOES TO THE OPERA

Abstract

Now we have at our disposal practically all of the contents of NO-DO, which was the official Spanish newsreeel between 1943 and 1981, i.e., with Franco and after Franco. In this paper, all those news stories linked to opera in its various approaches has been compiled: singers, theatres, performances..., and for each one we have written a brief critical comment about the way of presenting it. The most obvious conclusion is that NO-DO… "did not frequent very much the opera house," but, once this has been assumed, we have tried to clarify the selection criteria that led to so little motivation in such a long series of newsreels in which there were always space to discuss any subject, regardless of its greater or lesser popularity.
