Sense of community among Latin Americans living in Malaga (Spain): An intervention proposal based on community empowerment.

The main objective of this study is to investigate the association of the thematic blocks and interpretative repertoires obtained through the analysis of two previous research studies aimed at characterising the sense of community in Latin American residents in Malaga. The second objective of this article is to establish proposals for effective community intervention to develop the community strength of the neighbourhood where Latin American people live. This research is constituted as a qualitative meta-analysis. Specifically, the two previous studies employed a qualitative method through thematic and discursive analysis. The initial sample consisted of 30 participants. Information was collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews. The reciprocal influence between the sense of community and participation, and therefore with community empowerment, has been verified. Thus, the development of Participatory Budgeting is proposed in the areas where the interviewed Latin American people live. Ultimately, the implementation of a community radio station and a community magazine would make it possible to influence two complex levels, i.e. the procedural and the symbolic, addressing mainly the different dimensions of the sense of community, participation and community empowerment.
