Abstract

This study traces the creative and theoretical evolution of Joaquín Torres-García and David Alfaro Siqueiros, reconstructing the relationship between these two artists and defining the points of contact and divergence at different stages in their development. The relationship between Torres-García and Siqueiros was undoubtedly built on mutual respect, in spite of the distance between their artistic conceptions, which became even wider as their aesthetics became more structured. The differences culminated in a head-on confrontation between an idealistic and autonomist conception of art on the one hand and a vision of art as a vehicle for social change and revolution on the other.
