Abstract

Duchamp is highly appreciated as the founder of conceptual art. However, it has not been stressed enough that Duchamp develops a coherent practice of the concept-body. The concept of the essential body is put forward, with its mechanics, its fragments, its indices. It is impossible to think of the Duchampian body without taking into account the necessity of «printing» (empreinte). The «glory of the print» introduces a topology of the «infra-mince», a theme which has been developed by Duchamp in his Notes.
