The romanesque frescoes of Santa Maria de Cervià and their relationship with the Lords of Cervià and painting in the Aquitaine region.
Abstract
This paper offers an analysis of the Romanesque frescoes of the church of Cervià, focusing on their iconography and style and highlighting their relationship with other mural paintings of the Osormort circle in Catalonia, the frescoes of San Juan de la Peña and San Julián de Bagüés in Aragón, and Romanesque murals in Poitiers and Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe in the Aquitaine region of France. It also deals with the historical context in which the lords of Cervià, noblemen of the court of the Count of Barcelona, were able to learn about these French models and introduce them into Catalonia.Downloads
