Abstract

In this article we present a specific case of noble patronage awarded by the Magarola family, and the artistic production they undertook during the Baroque period. Following the biography of Jeroni de Magarola, we discuss various commissions, including the altarpiece of Saint Bernardine in Barcelona cathedral, and the lost altarpiece of St. Francis Xavier and St. Anthony from the parish church of St. Just and St. Pastor. In addition to correcting certain misconceptions about these pieces, we present a general interpretation of the work and provide new information that had not been studied in detail until now.
