The aim of this work is to tackle the significance of music in the career of American sculptor Vinnie Ream (1847-1914) by tracking musical references founded in primary and secondary sources dedicated to her life and work, paying special attention to the context and meaning of these references. Furthermore, the personal iconography Ream displayed in her photographed and painted portraits will be also analyzed, given that these images were an important tool to create her artistic and personal identity and to promote herself as a sculptress.
