About the Journal

STUDIA AFRICANA is a biannual academic journal of African Studies edited by the University of Barcelona and the University of Girona, with the support of the research group Power, Media and Global Cultures (POMAC) of UdG and the Centre d'Estudis Africans i Interculturals de Barcelona (CEAI).

Frequency: In this new phase, Studia Africana publishes two issues per year (July and December) with articles reviewed through a double-blind peer review process. Studia Africana does not use APC (Article Processing Charges) nor requires payments from authors/readers for full access to its contents or for processing publication proposals.

Accepted languages: Articles may be submitted in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, or Portuguese, provided they comply with the journal's publication guidelines.

Sections: The journal maintains an open submission policy throughout the year for any of its three sections: Monograph, Miscellaneous (Ubuntu), and/or Reviews.

Review process: Both monographic and miscellaneous articles undergo an external expert review. Within three months, anyone who submits an article will receive an email response from the editorial board, including an anonymous assessment from the referees with relevant suggestions. The evaluation may result in acceptance for publication without changes, acceptance with minor or major changes, or rejection. If the article requires changes (minor or major), it will need to be reevaluated by the referees.

This is an open-access journal under a Creative Commons 4.0 license, meaning all content is freely available without charge to users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without seeking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This aligns with the BOAI definition of open access. User registration is not required to access the full content, although it is necessary to submit proposals or register as a reviewer.
