Liquid Ecologies. Aquatic Geographies in the Audiovisual Arts in Brazil, Argentina and Chile
Keywords:
water, ecology, art, Chile, Argentina, BrazilAbstract
We are currently witnessing a global intensification of water-related disasters: floods, erosion and droughts coexist with changes in global water circulation, sea level rise and changes in weather patterns. In fact, water is often the means through which the message of global warming is transmitted. From this present of ecological crisis, considering the discourses on water implies questioning not only about the nature of “the liquid”, but also articulating theoretical reflections on spatiality within the frameworks of art and eco-criticism. To problematize the complex relationship that human beings establish with their natural environment, in the 21st century, art interweaves ecological, political, aesthetic and affective discourses through works of various formats. This article analyzes a set of works from Argentina, Brazil and Chile that recover liquid ecologies to think about sceneries of crisis and change.
