Abstract

This article explores the different representations related to the Monarch butterflies featured in the novel La montaña de las mariposas, written by the Mexican author Homero Aridjis, from the perspective of the animal turn. The connection established between the human characters and the butterflies is examined as well as the role played by these insects as an element of social and political criticism within the novel. Finally, it considers the relationship that the Monarch butterflies in the novel have with the environmental movement lead by the author.
