Abstract

The following article analyses and discusses sources and causes of violence in Latin America, as well as the predominant views on insecurity in Latin American countries. Thus, we confront the traditional that poverty is the main factor generating violence, and we propose that other variables be taken into consideration, suggesting that violence and insecurity in the subcontinent are linked to social processes which are far more complex than it has been traditionally granted.
