Abstract

The study of mobilization in the street (right of assembly and demonstration) is one of the inevitable indicators of the degree of social conflict. We ask ourselves if, as we presume, collective action in the streets really translates into votes in the ballot boxes. If it were so, we should like to enquire about the dimensions and the causes of such a process. In order to do so, we shall resort to the existing official data about protests in Spain and the information compiled by ourselves in our own empirical study (Madrid, 2014). We shall also take into account the chronology of conflict in 2014, a year when Spain moved from the fight for dignity to the empowerment of the citizenry.
