Abstract

The power struggle between the elites and the genocide in 1994 led to the exodus of thousands of Rwandans from their country. This collective is part of the Rwandan diaspora that is currently experiencing the same conflict that existed in their country of origin. Ethnic and regional divisions are the main elements that characterize the Rwandan diaspora. The current regime in Kigali has proposed programmes to encourage relations and manage its citizens that live abroad but there is still a long way to go before achieving national unity.
