Abstract

The aim of this paper is to identify the processes which have favored the transnational nature of the Catalan independence movement between 2010 -2014. The analysis of this study will allow a deeper comprehension of the transnational dynamics of a national cause, whereby this movement has managed to connect the local and the global. To that end, it becomes essential to collect qualitative data through research tools such as participant observation, interviews and documentary analysis. All for the purpose to characterize this social phenomenon by obtaining information from both primary and secondary sources, while respecting the outlook of those involved. In such a manner, it will be possible to demonstrate that these transnational processes boost each other, fostering the independence debate outside the Catalan frontiers.

Key words: Catalan process, social movements, transnational activism, political opportunities, Catalonia.
