Neoliberal popular feminism and the 8M Commission in Madrid. Between radicalism and mainstream

The increase in visibility and popularity of feminisms in recent years has led various authors to critically address the relationship between feminisms and neoliberalism. This research aims to study how feminist organizations interact with what I refer to here as popular neoliberal feminism. To do so, a case study of the 8M Commission in Madrid has been conducted by means of participant observation and semi-structured interviews. The results indicate a complex positioning between the defence of radically critical postulates and the maximization of the strategic advantages derived from being situated in the mainstream. Additionally, there appears to be a certain underestimation of the influence exerted by neoliberalism on feminist movements.
