This article seeks to offer a microsociological perspective on the social construction of protest. This level of analysis enables an understanding of how the decisions and interactions of specific individuals and groups within a social conflict are subsequently reflected in broader structures. To achieve this, the study examines the protest cycle that unfolded in Catalonia from 2017 to 2019, with particular attention to the responses to the judicialization of the social conflict and political repression. Central to this research are the Support Groups, which constituted the predominant organizational structure among the various social movements during this period, aiming to transform the criminalization they encountered into a political conflict. This study makes a valuable contribution to the analysis of protest in Catalonia and to the processes of re-signification and identity construction in response to a social issue, with the goal of generating collective action.
