Abstract

This article takes a glance at human rights and the Mapuche people, and analyses the main demands of this people, together with the response offered by the Chilean state, which, far from meeting their demands, has systematically violated the rights of the largest indigenous people in the country. It is established that, despite the existence of a (national and international) juridical structure to defend indigenous rights, there has been little progress and the persecution of the traditional authorities of the Mapuche people has become apparent, especially that of the Mapuche women, who have raised their voice to defend both their territory and the dignity of their people.
