Abstract

The article describes several experiences of territory recovered by means of resistance to a monoculture model of forest exploitation in Lafkenche Mapuche communities in Tirua, in the southern coastal region of Bio-Bio, in Chile. The special meaning and value of such resistance derives from the fact that, in the period from 1997 to 2014, the portion of communal land used for forestry plantations rose from 33 percent to 45.4 percent. Thanks to the research work carried out on site for the past four years, it has been possible to rescue and collect stories of resistance in several communities, such as the Kellgko community in the municipality of San Ramon; the Lorenzo Quintrileo community in the town of Quidico; the Milla Raye community in the municipality of Las Misiones, and, finally, the Alto Primer Agua community.
