Abstract

Four long periods can synthesize the history of the use of the Brazilian territory. First, the human presence, native and European, adapted to the natural systems with few techniques. From 18th century the selective mechanization of the production, from the northeast, organizes a Brazil archipelago. At a third moment, the mechanization of the circulation allows the integration of territory and market, with a significant process of industrialization by paulista hegemony towards the middle of 20th.century. In the last decades of this century, with the revolution of the telecommunications, science, information and finances increase the regional differences, urbanization and metropolization. The importance of Southeastern and South grow, as well as peripheral regions with modern productions. From those bases we outlined a proposal of new regional division to understand the present regional differentiations.
