Abstract

I analyze the development of the tourism in Salinópolis, littoral city the northeast of the state of Pará-Brazil, from the decade of 1990, with focus in the appropriation and consumption of its spaces. Salinópolis throughout its history comes suffering interventions from some social agents, amongst these, the tourism, the real estate speculation and the State. These social actors have had important role in the transformation of places, where the valuation of its territory through the tourist activity creates and recreates places, producing hybrid spaces where old and the new is established giving place to a new partner-space organization. The tourism in Salinopólis as example of other places tends to impose to the resident metropolitan habits generating homogeneous spaces that follow the capitalist globalized model.
