New geographies of production and consumption in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona

Abstract

The new spaces of production and consumption in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona show a change in their “location geographies”, and the emergency of a reticular configuration organized according to principles of complementarity and synergy. The modalities of location in relation to the urban system or to the existing infrastructure, the types of use, as well as its morphotypologic patterns, constitute the main contents of this article. The analysis assumes a project approach, in the search of possible strategies for the arrangement of the metropolitan region, with respect to the location and the infrastructural and environmental model, and in relation to the modalities of the own spaces of production and consumption.
