Abstract

There are various factors that lead an individual to mobility and to a temporarily reterritorialized life. Since the 1980s thousands of Brazilians have made the decision to live under this condition Officially there were about 6300 Brazilians in Barcelona in 2005. Based on qualitative methodological proceedings, this research aimed in particular at discussing the condition of being Brazilian in the place of the “Other”, taking into account the cultural diversity. The immigrants reinvent new forms of reinterpreting their daily life outside their national context and construct a hybrid view of the world. Although there is an “integration” policy for the immigrants in Catalonia, it is questionable, since aspects of segregation, discrimination and social exclusion persist. The Brazilian worker elaborates his/her modes that maintain him/her her in Spain, but, at the same time, he/she is also there in Brazil.
