Abstract

The demolition and the conservation of urban and architectural artefacts constructed by men is a question that is present until nowadays around the history of some cities of the world. The course between old, modern and contemporary cities shows in distinct forms, the clear relation between such practical that had been beyond the existing polarity between both, and walked route parallel to the deep urban transformations. The undertaken discussion ins this paper mixtures diverse theoretical contributions in the discipline field of urbanism and urban geography, with empirical references in Brazil, especially in the city of Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco, and searchs to extend the understanding of these morphologic transformations in distinct times.
