Abstract

After decades of low levels of out-migration, internal and international out-flows have increased in the same Spanish areas that experienced large population losses due to migration during most of the XXth century. But, unlike previous periods, the current migrants are highly educated and are moving out of urban areas. Castile and León is a clear example of this dynamic: it is the region with the largest proportion of young adults living outside their region of birth, a trend driven by the highly educated groups.
