Abstract

General study about military powder magazines in Spain along the second half of the XIX century. Structured in six sections, the first and the second deal with the special disposition and building conditions of it’s elements. The third section analyses the main legal dispositions relating to these buildings that were dictated in Spain at the same period, guided in general to the protection of the local population and other security conditions, due to the dangerous nature of gunpowder and explosives. In the last three sections their evolution is revised through the main European models, the Spanish military engineers most prominent proposals and the solution adopted in Taco’s powder magazine, excellently preserved model of this type.
