Abstract

El nostre planeta és especial. Aquesta afirmació no es deu a un simple rampell d'egocentrisme,sinó que fa referència al significat genuí de la paraula especial. Encara que hi hagi molts altres cossos celestes amb capacitat d'albergar vida, i encara avui el nombre de candidats segueixaugmentant ostensiblement, la Terra és l'únic planeta conegut que conté vida. Durant milersde milions d'anys, incomptables éssers vius han estat coexistint, evolucionant, donant lloc aespècies més complexes i deixant una petita empremta que permetia identificar el seu pas.Així, ara podem conèixer l'existència d'organismes que, tot i extingir-se fa eres, van exercir unrol extremadament important, teixint els fils que formen el nostre passat i van permetre aixíque la vida sigui com la coneixem actualment.
