Abstract

El virus de l’hepatitis E (VHE) va ser identificat l’any 1983 i és la causa principal d’hepatitis viral aguda en el món, amb especial importància en països en vies de desenvolupament. Però, a més de tenir una forta incidència en zones endèmiques, cada cop més està augmentant el nombre de casos autòctons en països industrialitzats com Espanya, considerant-se actualment una malaltia emergent a Europa. Aquest patogen s’ha convertit en un problema de salut pública mundial segons ha reconegut l’OMS (Organització Mundial de la Salut).
