Epstein-Barr Virus: much more than a virus of young people
Abstract
We often think that viruses cause infections that can be more or less acute, but apart from that they do not pose any other risks to our health. However, viruses such as Epstein-Barr can indirectly cause other non-infectious pathologies that can have important clinical implications. Different studies have provided strong and consistent evidence that the Epstein-Barr virus might play a key role in the development of multiple sclerosis. The risk of developing the disease increases more than 30 times after an Epstein-Barr infection.
