Sobre la articulación de [t-d] en español

Abstract

The Spanish phonetic tradition has often regarded the sounds [t] and [d] as dental articulations, more precisely apico-dental, since they are articulated with the tip of the tongue making contact with the inner side of the upper teeth. In some cases the contact takes place on the gums and alveolar ridge. Our claim, which we have proved from articulatory evidence taken from electropalatographic analysis, is that that these sounds are not only dental, but predorsal (laminal) dentoalveolar. In their articulation the tip of the tongue points towards the lower teeth. Our claim agrees with that of Ladefoged and Maddieson and it also coincides with a type of articulation more common in the world's languages.
