Matèria. Revista internacional d'Art mainly gathers research and new contributions by art history specialists within a wide range of issues of history and theory of art, including performing arts, music and cinema.
Edited by the Art History Department of the University of Barcelona, this journal is the successor to the so-called D’Art, published from 1972 to 1997 (ISSN 0211-0768), later converted into Materia. Revista d’Art, between 2000 and 2007 (ISSN1579-2641), and with a slight change in its title, Matèria. Revista internacional d'Art, from its issue nº8 (2013-14)

This monograph, coordinated bt Magda Polo and Tania Alba, brings together a series of five articles that, from the late Middle Ages to the present day, and taking into account different artistic languages, highlight the aforementioned importance of images and artistic practices in times of crisis. These not only bear witness to the vicissitudes, consequences and collective understanding of pandemics such as the plague, the so-called Spanish flu or the recent Covid-19, in which we are still immersed, but also fulfill an important function: protective, cathartic and even sociabilizing.
