By carrying out a systematic and concrete study of certain types of sculpture, we can come to know, over time, how some elements that were once identified and included in one category of objects appear to belong to another. This is the case with the fragment we deal with in this article. With the help of specific studies and an accurate stylistic analysis, we give new light to an object that was part of a rare and little documented monumental decoration in the Roman world.
