This article seeks to describe the characters of the so-called mountainy novel and to study their typification —following Lukács— and their evolution, which leads to the frame of the modernist novel. To do so, it takes as references Carles Bosch de la Trinxeria’s L’hereu Noradell and Josep Pous i Pagès’ La vida i la mort d’en Jordi Fraginals, passing through other characters of the works of Josep Pin i Soler or Marian Vayreda. The comparative study ascertains a change in the political intentionality of the works and its own artistic will.
