Abstract

This paper demonstrates a comparative study of two contemporary novels: La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942) by Camilo José Cela and ¡Vivir! by Yu Hua (1993). The objective of this work is to highlight their common elements including realism, existentialism, and the lives of the marginalized. In order to achieve this goal, the analysis starts from the four fundamental themes of the two novels: violence, death, poverty and destiny.
