Abstract

In a country with historical capital scarcity, like Spain, the study of the interregional financial flows is crucial. About the Spanish financial system of the 1970s, some works were published supporting the Gunnar Myrdal's concept on the banks as promoters of great movements of funds from the poor regions (with a surplus of savings) towards the rich ones (with the most favourable investment climate), aggravating the problems associated with inequality. Recent publications, using the data provided by the Bank of Spain since 1983, backed the same idea but from the more sophisticated Post Keynesian approach. The main aim of this study is to offer information on the subject based on new sources, particularly for 1963-1975, a key period in the Spanish economic development.
