Riotinto: el declive de un mito minero (1954-2003)

El presente artículo trata la historia de las minas de Riotinto desde su adquisición por el capital español en 1954 hasta su cierre en 2003; medio siglo en el que la mina conoció diversos propietarios nacionales y extranjeros que afrontaron problemas técnicos, financieros y laborales para poner en el mercado piritas, cobre, oro y plata en un proceso de acelerada extracción, agotamiento de los recursos y caída de precios, en el marco de una economía española y mundial crecientemente globalizadas. En el presente artículo se analizan los problemas mencionados para dejar en el aire la pregunta sobre el destino de los distritos mineros que no han tenido la oportunidad de diversificar sus economías, dejando un panorama de fuerte impacto medioambiental y desertización productiva y humana.
