Author Guidelines

Revista de Bioética y Derecho accepts only original manuscripts for publication. Papers must be written in Spanish, Catalan, French, English, Portuguese or Italian. This journal uses the plagiarism detection tool Ouriginal/Turnitin, so if the article has been previously published or is a translation of one already published, its revision will be rejected by the editorial committee. Also, if the article is being evaluated simultaneously in another journal, it will be rejected.

Manuscripts must be submitted through this link in Microsoft Word or equivalent format. Manuscripts sent by email or in PDF format will not be accepted.

Manuscripts must be type-setted in Times New Roman or Arial font size 12, 1.5 spaced, and must not exceed 6000 words in length (excluding abstract, keywords, footnotes, bibliography or funding). Originals exceeding this limit will not be reviewed. Exceptionally, longer manuscripts sent to sections Perspectivas Bioéticas or Bioética en los tribunales may be accepted provided they do not exceed 9000 words (excluding abstract, keywords, footnotes, bibliography or funding).

Files must include:

  • Title of the article in its original language and its translation to English and Spanish
  • Five to ten keywords that describe the content, in both the original language and its translation to English and Spanish
  • Abstract (up to 250 words) in both the original language and its translation to English and Spanish
  • A list of the used bibliographical references, at the end of the article

The following complementary files must be attached:

  • Statement of the article’s originality duly completed, digitally or electronically signed.
  • Document stating the authorship information of the article, specifying full name, position, institutional affiliation, authors' e-mail address and ORCID code. If the article is the result of or is part of a funded research project, the full name of the project, reference number and funding entity must be indicated. In this document, conflicts of interest must be declared.
  • If applicable, complementary materials (graphics, tables, infographics or multimedia) should be attached in high resolution and editable formats to be eventually edited according to the journal's stylistic standards.

If the manuscript derives from research where experiments/tests have been carried out on human beings (with biological samples of human origin, personal data, etc.) and/or on non-human animals, the ethical approval or exemption certificate of the corresponding Institutional Review Board (IRB) must be provided. In addition, the informed consent form used in the research must be provided, as well as the information sheet for participants.

Due to possible differences in ethical approval and informed consent requirements between different countries and institutions, the guiding principle will be to follow the requirements and legislation of the country/region in which the study was conducted.

The journal reserves the right to request further information from authors if the information provided is considered insufficient.

Manuscripts are submitted to external double-blind evaluation prior to publication. If applicable, the authors will be informed of the issue of the journal in which they are expected to be published.

Tables, graphics, and pictures should be explained with a brief caption. However, the journal reserves the right to modify either or both the size and/or location in order to comply with layout requirements.

Manuscripts should use gender-neutral wording whenever possible in order to comply with international recommendations regarding gender equality and non-discrimination. For more information, check the University of Barcelona's Style Guide for Gender. We recommend that authors of articles that have been conducted using research data including sex and gender variables, to report on whether the conclusions have taken into account possible differences between these variables.

Bibliography

Both citations and consulted bibliography should be cited at the end of the manuscript, even if also mentioned in footnotes.

We recommend adopting the APA Guidelines 7th ed.
