Ricoeur’s interest in bioethical issues is well established. The purpose of this article is to proceed, from ricœurian intuitions on recognition, to a hermeneutics of the care relationship by showing that this can also be understood as a journey of recognition that one places oneself on the caregiver side or patient side. Recognition unleashes this movement in which caregiver and patient take on the challenge of living together while respecting each other's autonomy.
