The site of Mas Xirgu was discovered during construction work on the high-speed railway (AVE) in Girona. During two consecutive excavations, the first carried out in 2008, an archaeological team explored the site and found the remains of a large underground/excavated hut along with a significant array of pottery and metallic objects. Excavated remains of two more huts and associated pits were uncovered during the second excavation in 2009. These structures show that this place was inhabited at the beginning of the Iron Age.Downloads
