Koranic prohibition of wine consumption reduced vine growing in the Muslim societies of the Mediterranean to a small part of a polycultural system where its role was to provide grapes and raisins. Feudal colonization after the Catalan conquest gave this crop one of the most important roles in the new agricultural system, leading to a considerable expansion of wine production.Downloads
