Dominion and rights over water in the Besòs basin in modern times

Abstract

The analysis of de roryal rule establishments over the water in different towns of Vallès in the second half of the seveneteenth century, depending if it’s use of lords, town counciles or farmers, allows a better precise about the presence of irrigation to the lands around Mogent, Congost, Tenes, Riera de Caldes and Besòs, and combined whith the activity of the mills. The icreased irrigation in the last quarter of the seventeenth and in the eighteenth centurys expressed a some dynamic agriculture but it wasn’t an important transformation in the area. Moreover, the conflicts arising from the individual rights or of towns generateds mainly by the abuse of access to the same stream, but also from the location of dams and the irrigation chanels outside the municipality. They’re a good examples to the increasing interest about that resource.
