The paper describes the role of the trementinaires (turpentine women) in a mountain peasant society, points out the causes of their decline and disappearance and finally, that of their revival as symbolic figures at the end of the twentieth century. Trementinaires as travelling women who sold healing plants and turpentine were one of the posibilities of seasonal migration and pluriactivity. The conversion of the trementinaires in a heritage value by means of a museum is related to a new tertiary economy.
