Abstract

This paper studies the evolution, the main characteristics and the transformations produced in fishing in the region of the Empordà. Some keys are proposed of interpretation to understand the changes that they took place in the Catalan coast during the Ancient |Regime and how their inhabitants adapted themselves to it and overcame them diversifying and combining different types of occupation. The multi-activity was a relevant feature and the different historical conjontures helped in the technical change in the sector.
