Hèracles, Hilas i un Bisbe mexicà

Ignacio Montes de Oca, bisbe mexicà que en cercles culturals es feia dir “Ipandro Acaico”, emprengué, al segle XIX, la traducció de diversos poetes bucòlics grecs. Ho féu, però, profundament influït per la seva condició d’eclesiàstic, que l’induí a suprimir i a modificar passatges de manera significativa. La nostra comunicació pren com a exemple il·lustratiu la traducció de l’Idil·li XIII de Teòcrit, en la qual el bisbe converteix Hilas, el noi estimat per Hèracles, en el seu fill. Tot seguit presentem altres casos de manipulació semblants i els situem en el context moralitzador (no exclusiu del segle XIX) que tan profundament alterà la lectura de certs autors clàssics.
