Abstract

The present contribution deals with the edition of Virgil's works carried out by Gian Battista Bodoni in 1793 in Parma. It highlights the involvement of intellectuals from the so-called "Age of Enlightenment", such as José Nicolás de Azara, Esteban de Arteaga, Ennio Quirino Visconti, and Carlo Fea, in the genesis and publication of this work. In this context, Azara's stay in Rome, his political connections, and his friendship with Bodoni are key aspects. We also analyze the influence of other previous editions, such as those by Heyne or Ribbeck, to examine textual variations in Bodoni’s edition, emphasizing the textual changes and deliberate omissions.
